As one of the founders of Blue River Capital Management, Philip was looking for an opportunity to shape an investment advisory firm that would be process driven based on empirical data to build a business designed to benefit clients in the short- and long-term.
Prior to co-founding BRCM, Philip worked for more than a decade at Baker Ellis Asset Management, a boutique investment advisory firm based in the Portland-metro area. Philip has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Philip’s interest in financial markets started as a pre-teen and led him to study finance in college at the University of Arizona where he earned a BSBA degree in Finance while competing for the men’s golf team. Of particular interest to Philip is behavioral finance and decision making and how it impacts investors and markets.
Outside of work, Philip still competes in regional and national amateur golf events during the drier months in the Pacific Northwest, complemented with downhill skiing in the winter. Golf has been an instrumental part of Philip’s life and he seeks to improve accessibility to the game and the life values it can teach through serving on the Board of Directors for the First Tee of Greater Portland, and previously as the President of the Ambassador Board of The First Tee of Greater Portland.
Philip’s other hobbies and interests include cooking, reading, traveling (especially to his mother’s native Sweden), curling, and spending time with his wife, Jess, and their vocal long-haired dachshund Milo.
