straightforward, diversified, efficient.

our philosophy.

We utilize a systematic approach to building and managing client portfolios based on our four philosophical tenets with the goal of maximizing our clients’ after-tax returns relative to their portfolio risk.

01

risk management

At Blue River Capital Management, we spend time to understand your full financial picture and where the assets we manage fit. From this information, we build a portfolio with an appropriate level of risk so that you can feel confident and comfortable with your investments while achieving your financial goals.

02

semi-active management

We use a combination of empirical data, scholarly research, fundamental and quantitative analysis to select our investments. Our investment process is designed to systematically identify and exploit market inefficiencies, while remaining correlated with the overall indexes, with the goal of enhancing returns over time.

03

asset class diversification

Building diversified portfolios can greatly benefit investor outcomes. Research points to the potential for diversification to lower portfolio risk without a commensurate reduction in return. The key is owning various asset classes that do not always move in lock-step. Our portfolios are generally diversified between equities, fixed income, real estate, and the occasional alternative.

04

tax efficiency

If you have taxable accounts, we regularly evaluate tax-loss harvesting opportunities to minimize your tax liability. Our accounts typically have low turnover which helps to avoid unnecessary capital gains. We also advise on ways to minimize the tax burden from IRA distributions and RMDs and to maximize the tax benefits of charitable giving.
